All Aboard!

With the start of school looming over us, we decided to take a quick trip to Durango, Colorado.  We rode on the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.   I have never been a big fan of heights and have heard about the trip from Durango to Silverton, but I was determined not to let anything bother me.  We rode in the open air gondola.  It was really neat.  We had to wear our sunglasses the whole time so we wouldn’t get cinders in our eyes.  We did get a little dirty since we were in the open air car.  We were a little sooty, but nothing that deterred us from having fun.  We got to Silverton, which is one of my favorite towns, and had lunch.  Then we just walked around until it was time to get back on the train.  The ride back seemed so much longer than 3 hours.  The next time we take the train, I think we will take the train up and take the bus down.  It rained us and yes, we were still in the open air car.  We did have an umbrella so that was good.  We made back to Durango and visited the train museum and then headed off to the Lightener Creek Bed and Breakfast.  It was nice and comfy and we were so tired.  Bill’s mom and Alice joined us for the ride.  It was nice to spend time with them.

  1. My dad took my sister and I on this train trip many moons ago. In fact my FB profile picture is from that trip! I loved it and would do it again in a heart beat! The scenery is absolutely gorgeous and the town of Silverton so quaint. Looks a little bit bigger from your pictures that it was when we were there!
