Apparently the issues don’t matter

The United States is facing some tough times.  Unemployment is still at 9.5%. We have been stuck in Afghanistan for the last 9 years with no end in sight. The poverty level has risen. States are in struggling to balance budgets while still provide services to their citizens.  In the meantime, there are 37 states with a governors race, all 435 House of Representatives seats are up for grabs and 36 seats in the Senate will be up for grabs.  In New Mexico where the poverty level has risen, the Democratic nominee for governor, Diane Denish and the lieutenant governor nominee, Brian Colon, have decided to call Susanna Martinez out as a ‘Tejana’ (Texan). Martinez was born in El Paso, but has lived for over 25 years in New Mexico.  Why does this matter? It doesn’t.  In California, a former housekeeper for Meg Whitman has come and said that Whitman knew she was in the country illegally.  Whitman said she didn’t and fired her when she found out. Gloria Allred, a strong supporter of the Democratic party, is the former housekeeper’s lawyer. Sounds fishy to me, but does it matter? No.  In  New York, Andrew Cuomo and Carl Paladino apparently have been both unfaithful to their wives, but does it matter to the state of New York — No. These are just a few of the “issues” that are being slung in the 2010 elections. I am sure there are many more.  Voters on both sides and in  between are tired of the out of control government spending, the intrusion of government in their lives and the failure of the parties to look past partisanship and work together for the betterment of the country.   There are many candidates riding the wave of the anti-incumbent sentiment, but will they continue that wave if they are elected.  Our country needs leaders that will stand up for the citizens of the United States as the elected leaders and forget about politics and do their job.

  1. Oddly enough I fully agree with your take on this.
What difference does it make if someone was not born in the state they are runiing in. People run off to other staed they think they can get elected in all the time. Last I checked there is nothing that says you have to be a life-long citizen of a state to run for office. That would be unconstitutional in regards to our ability of free movement throughout our country. Plus if it were a condition we could have avoided Arnold as Governor.
And when it comes to high profile figures and undocumented workers in their home it is always the same story. They didnt know and they fired them as soons as they knew. #1 in our country there are alot of undocumented people. There are many who work at regular jobs and employers dont know because the employee is able to get good ID. #2 Why didn’t Meg just say yeah I hired her and didn’t care about her status. She was afoordable and great with my kids or was an awesome cook made the best mole in the world. Whatever.
#3 Why does the housekeeper need an attorney? Is Gloria Allred in immigration law now?
As for the inidelity of candidates who cares? It happens all the time and really the general public is desensitized to it. We see it in everything from the news to TV shows to real life. So who cares? If the significant other doesnt seem to care why should we? Think about all the things that have come up out about the lifestyles of so many of the members of congress. Even those who have been caught doing things they should not have done will sling the mud at someone else.
Honestly it is a raity that any true issues get covered. Where does any one candidate stand on any one position? I Don’t Know!
The only position I am positive of for all candidates is that they want to be elected by exposing as little of what they stand for to the electorate.
I read a line recently where a lady was asked what party she sided with, She said I hate the political parties because I don’t know what they really believe in.
Hard to be a Republican or a Democrat when what you think the ideals of one party is, is not demonstrated by the members of the party.

I guess we will have to leave the debates of the real issues to the bloggers and coffee shop pundits. We certainly wont get it from the candidates.
